I've been meaning to get this done and finally, on my birthday I get it done. Been using cigarette lighter power for a bit and decided it was time to hardwire and place the rear camera.
I used an Azdome PG17, which also includes a rear camera with cabling as well. It straps to the stock rear view.
I started by finding some suitable switched power so that I could tap a 12v to 5v power supply. On the fusebox on the passenger side door side (F28, a 50 amp fuse). There are 3 blades for that fuse. Place the fuse on the left and center pins (the lighter and usb are switched), place it on the center and right pin (usb and lighter are constant with the truck shut off). I believe that factory is the center and right pins. I previously moved mine so that the dashcam did not stay on.
No cutting of wires needed for this, just need a blade connector to tap the pin. The only alteration was a tapper screw for the power supply ground (near the fusebox).
Note, please use an inline fuse (I used a 15 amp) and if at all possible solder and heatshrink your connections
Running the camera wire was simple (just pry a little on the panels to tuck the cable in). Ran the cable on the left side (I have a power sliding window, slides to the right). I placed the camera up top close to the slider (did not change the view signifigantly not being centered). Used hook tape (not the velcro type) to attach it. Works well, it is just too bright outside right now to capture a decent picture.
Another advantage to this one is that not only does it augment rear view but also records as well.
Update, apparently my pictures are too large to upload, so I had to screen shot them.
