General Motors appears to be changing course on one of its most controversial infotainment decisions.
GM has confirmed that the redesigned 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 will support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as part of their new infotainment interface.
What makes the new setup interesting is that CarPlay and Android Auto won’t necessarily take over the entire screen.
Instead, GM’s new interface can display CarPlay or Android Auto alongside native truck information, allowing drivers to keep access to things like:
That could be especially useful for Duramax owners who tow. You could potentially keep Apple Maps, Google Maps or Waze visible while still having important truck or trailer information on screen.
The move is notable because GM previously announced plans to move away from Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on some of its newer vehicles in favor of its own Google-based infotainment system.
For the next-generation Silverado and Sierra, however, GM appears to be taking a different approach: keep CarPlay and Android Auto, but integrate them more closely with the truck.
For many buyers, that may be the best of both worlds.
