Looking for mileage while towing a camper, mine is 5000 lbs. I know what my 5.3 gets (not good) curious to know what others are getting with their GMC Duromax diesels

Very subjective and dependent on many factors. What mileage do you actually get empty with your 5.3 and towing (hand calculated)?

Empty in the summer anywhere from 17-21, towing 8-12. Empty in winter (winter grade gas) 16-19. Hand calculated? No I read what's on the mileage display.

Conditions and your right foot play a big role in the number… I don’t really tow much at all with mine but my overall average (summer & winter) not towing is right around 27.5MPG. Guys that have travel trailers around 5-6000 lbs says they set around 15MPG or so (some guys claim 19MPG, which may be possible on level road with no headwind or even a small tail wind but don’t count on this number all the time...) but this is highly dependent on the hills encountered, headwinds, speed, etc for your driving. When towing they do go through quite a bit of DEF, when not towing it‘s minimal. I only go thru two 2.5 gal jugs in a year. Towing guys can go thru 2.5 gallons in about 1000 miles.

My Yukon XL has a lifetime average of 27.5 for 7750 miles. My best tank was 31.5. Now that it’s cold out it’s a little worse. I haven’t towed yet.

Amazing for a full size SUV.

We tow a 28 foot Airstream weighting 8000 pounds. We go see our grandkids in Shreveport often, so we make this trip a lot. On I-20 across north Louisiana we get 15.3 mpg on average. We pull our trailer at or near 68 mph. Our round trip is around 350 miles. The truck handles the trailer very well. We drop from a 6.6 Duramax which got 12.5 mpg average on the same trip.

It is going to depend a lot on the frontal area of your rv. I have a 2016 Rockwood mini lite 1809s, approx. 5000lbs GVW. it is a aerodynamic as a brick. 2022 a trip from Calif. to Missouri and back with a 2021 3.0 averaged a hair over 13 mph. 2021 same trailer, trip to Montana from Calif in a 2016 Colorado 2.8 diesel 13 MPG. Same trailer, 2019 trip to Indiana and back with a Ford 6.0, 13 MPG
Average speed all trips 65 MPH.
2023 trip to Missouri, no trailer 27 MPG. ran at posted speed limits
