I have a '24 Silverado RST with the 3.0l LZ0 engine. I would like to add an oil filter sandwich adapter, nice unit made by Improved Racing, also installing oil cooler lines to oil cooler installed in front of radiator. The factory oil adapter on this engine has threads, M22 x 1.5mm attached to the block and 1" - 16 for the spin-on PF-66 oil filter. The adapter itself is two inches in length, and incorporates an internal spring with holes drilled around the hex part of adapter where you can put a wrench, (1 1/8" or 27mm). I believe the purpose of the spring and holes are some kind of oil pressure relief, but not sure. In order for me to install the oil filter sandwich adapter, I can use Improved Racing's adapter which has M22 x 1.5mm on both ends. It does not however have the incorporated spring with the drilled holes.

Any experts out there that can provide information on what exactly the spring/drilled holes are for on the factory adapter? Can I simply use a non-spring/drilled hole adapter in place of factory version? I'm guessing it would probably void the engine warranty if replaced by a non compliant adapter, but not sure. It is interesting how GM decided to use metric threads on one side and Imperial threads on the other!
Any suggestions/help is greatly appreciated. Thank You!... Dennis
