Thanks for the update and symptoms.Well folks,
I had the Provent Catch Can installed and over 5400 miles, it caught 2.60 Ounces of oil. Yep, that is it
Well, any oil taken out of the intake is good right?
The Bad: The Provent and hoses must cause a build up of pressure or the Provent vented under pressure as I had a code P04DB(Crankcase breather system disconnected) set many times and after I cleared it there is now a hard code P04DB set and I not able to remove that yet.
On this 4300 mile trip, Every time I had to mash on the throttle heavily, it set the code. It set many times and I finally gave up resetting it and left the MIL light on as it didnt affect performance on the trip.
Maybe one of the other catch cans would work better? I don't know.
The truck did burn a quart of oil on this trip, time for a oil change.
I'm giving up on this setup.

Now that the ‘pre-order’ is complete… they are now $399. NiceI talked to PPE and they said they will have a version out soon for the 3.0. Also VSE has one now for the 3.0. Kind or expensive $349.
I saw that. Figures….Now that the ‘pre-order’ is complete… they are now $399. Nice
I haven't heard if the PPE can is available or not yet. You could try their webpage.im in the market for a catch can, any good ones available yet ?
Thanks Scott
Thanks for the update, I have been considering buying the VSE, please keep us updated with your results. Very good postI installed the new VSE oil catch can this afternoon. (theres a good video in the attached VSE web site link and another good one on DemonWorks youtube channel)
I only have 29 miles on the vehicle since I bought it back in Dec. 2023. I don't drive my good vehicles it in the winter (because of all the salt) and I wanted to wait until this catch can became available, so I just left it parked.
The VSE can is a bit more difficult to install than what you see in the videos, but definitely doable. I had to use a regular spiral clamp on the curved hose instead of the spring clamp thats in the kit. (I wasted the $$ for that special clamp tool that is recommended and found it to be nearly useless.) There just wasn't a good way to get to the spring clamp on the curved hose, the space is very limited! I was able to use the OEM spring clamp as well as two of the three that came in the kit for three of the four connections.
If you do purchase a VSE catch can, be super careful getting the can into position. It is a really tight fit and you don't want to disturb the heater hose coupling any more than you absolutely have to. I hear that they can break fairly easily. ALSO....stuff a towel under the can BEFORE you try to thread the nut onto the mounting bolt. If you drop it, good luck finding it. (I never did find it, even after dropping the skid plate) I picked up a new nut at the hardware store, stuffed an old fluffy towel under the can, wrapped a piece of duct tape around my finger (sticky side out) then pressed the nut firmly into the glue on the tape to keep from dropping it again. I left the bolt loose enough so I could turn it and catch the threads on the nut.
I installed a Racor crank case ventilation system on my 2000 Powerstoke shortly after I bought it. 24 years later, the inlet to the turbo and all the piping, hoses and connections were 100% oil free. I am hoping that the VSE oil catch can will do as good a job as the Racor system did. Time will tell.
As an added bonus, I also got the Banks iDash gauge installed on the A pillar grab handle. The Banks gauge pod looks fantastic. The paint for the pod that is available from Banks, matches the interior color perfectly (after I got the paint manufacturer's info and part number from Banks web site, I ordered a can of it through walmart for half the price).
